US rules out any intervention in Kashmir issue

United States today ruled out any American intervention in Kashmir. It reiterated that it is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and there is no question of third party mediation. Senior US officials said in New Delhi that this has been the consistent position of Washington on the issue. Top US Officials said, India should play a major role in the Asian continent and at the global stage. In reply to a question on giving military aid to Pakistan, the officials said that it is aimed at countering the terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Our correspondent reports that the top US officials briefed the media about the issues to be taken up during the forthcoming visit of President Obama early next month. ‘Easing of export controls and outsourcing curbs by US besides regional security situation in Pakistan will be high on the agenda in the summit level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the US President Barrack Obama. Defence cooperation, climate change, clean energy, education, agriculture and counter terrorism will also figure prominently in the talks. Strengthening cooperation in space science and trade and commerce will form part of the deliberations between the two leaders. US maintains that India is its indispensable partner in 21st century and the visit of Obama will highlight the growth, strength and breadth of the bilateral ties. After the civil nuclear pact between the two countries, this visit is expected to operationalise this pact to meet the growing clean energy demand in the country besides facilitating high technology trade.
