US promises full support to India's efforts to protect itself from terror attacks

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday said that India and America are allies in the fight against terrorism. She promised to give full US support to India's efforts to protect itself from terror attacks. In her brief remarks at the beginning of the second strategic dialogue between the two countries in New Delhi, Ms. Clinton said that homeland security is a high priority and a source of increasing partnership. She held wide ranging consultations with her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna at Hyderabad House. Ms. Clinton who reached in the national capital last evening had a breakfast meeting with the National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon. The US Secretary of State is accompanied by 25-member delegation including top security officials. The External Affairs Minister S M Krishna was assisted in the talks by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahulawalia and Advisor to the Prime Minister Sam Pitroda among others. Apart from calling on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Clinton will hold parleys with several senior political leaders including UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Ahead of the delegation level talks in the dialogue India and US signed aviation safety agreement last evening and decided to step up scientific cooperation in agriculture, healthcare, nutrition and Monsoon forecasting. On Wednesday Ms. Clinton will be travelling to Chennai where she is likely to meet representatives of US companies.
