US President hails Iraq's victory over Islamic State group in Mosul

US President Donald Trump has hailed Iraq's victory over the Islamic State terror group in Mosul. Congratulating Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, the Iraqi security forces and all Iraqis for their victory over terrorists, Mr Trump said in a statement that the victory signals Islamic State's days in Iraq and Syria are numbered. He said, US will continue to seek the total destruction of IS.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, senior US commander in Iraq, Lieutent General Stephen Townsend has warned that the war against the Islamic State is not over, despite a historic victory in Mosul. He said, there were still IS fighters in Iraq. The commander said, the government should now reach out to Iraq's Sunnis to stop the terror group from renewing itself.

Trump said in a statement yesterday praising Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi that the victory in Mosul signals Islamic State's days in Iraq and Syria are numbered. <br/><br/>His statement was echoed by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who vowed to work with partners and the UN to stabilize liberated areas of Mosul and return displaced citizens.<br/> <br/>Yesterday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared a victory over IS controlled Mosul city terming it as triumph over brutality and terrorism after his forces ended the Islamic State group's rule over the country's second city.<br/><br/>The US-led coalition backed the Mosul offensive and is supporting another assault on IS's Syrian bastion Raqa.<br/>
