In the United States, police shot a gunman and safely freed three people he had taken hostage at the Discovery Channel headquarters outside Washington. Montgomery County police chief J Thomas Manger told reporters that all the hostages are safe and are out of the building after a four-hour standoff. Manger said, the gunman, an Asian male, had explosive devices strapped to his front and back when he stormed the building in Silver Spring, Maryland last night. He said, the gunman has been taken into custody.
