The United States has ordered a partial evacuation of its embassy in Syria because of what it calls the uncertainty and volatility in the country. The State Department yesterday said it ordered some non-essential embassy staff and all dependents to leave Syria. It said embassy operations will continue to the extent possible under the constraints of an evolving security situation. Rights activists and witnesses say about 390 people have been killed in security crackdowns since the protests erupted.
