On day one of the US Open yesterday, Rafael Nadal advanced into the second round in the Men's singles category. Second seeded Nadal defeated unseeded Ryan Harrison of US 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, while fourth seeded fellow Spaniard David Ferrer trounced Australian Nick Krygios 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.In the women singles category, Venus Williams of the US upset 12th seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium, 6-1, 6-2. In other matches, while third seeded Agnieszka Radwanska cruised into the second round of the Women's singles defeating Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-1, 6-2, Fifth seeded Li Na of China advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Belarus Olga Govortsova.Somdev Devvarman will launch India's campaign in the Men's Singles category when he will face Slovakia's Lukas Lacko. Leander Paes will launch India's campaign in the Men's doubles category with his Czech partner Radek Stepanek. They have been seeded fourth and will face unseeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland and Dmitry Tursunov of Russia.Paes had won Winston Salem title with Canadian Daniel Nestor but will play the US open with regular partnerStepanek.Rohan Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin have been seeded sixth and they face the American pair of Bradley Klahn and Sam Querrey in their opening match.Mahesh Bhupathi has teamed up with German Philipp Petzschner and they have been pitted against the Canadiancombo of Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil.Another Indian featuring in the men's doubles draw is left-hander Divij Sharan, who has combined with Taipei'sYen-Hsun Lu.They face the Dutch team of Robin Haase and Igor Sijsling as their first round opponent.In women's doubles, Sania Mirza and China's Jie Zheng, who won the New Haven title, are seeded 10th and will open their campaign against Germany's Annika Beck and Monica Puig ofPuerto Rico.
