In the US Open Tennis Championship, Somdev Devvarman and Treat Connard have entered the second round of men's doubles, beating Igor Andreev and Igor Kunitsyn, 6-3 and 6-4. However, in the mixed doubles, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi crashed out of the contest, losing 3-6 and 6-7 to Frantiscke and Lucie Hradecka. In the singles events, Roger Federer and Serena Williams both swept into the third round. Federer, already a five-time champion at Flushing Meadows, demolished Israel's Dudi Sela, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in just 77 minutes. Serena thrashed Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 6-0, 6-1 in less than an hour.
