US Open: Shock exit for Murray; Paes, Stepanek in Doubles final

Britain's World Number Three, Andy Murray has made a shocking quarterfinal exit from the US Open Tennis tournament, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season. In the Men's Singles quarterfinals at New York late last night, this year's Wimbledon champion, Murray was stunned by the ninth seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, in straight sets, 4-6, 3-6, 2-6. Earlier, Roger Federer of Switzerland had crashed out early, in the pre-quarterfinals. In yesterday's other quarterfinal, Serbia's World Number One Novak Djokovic cruised into the semis, beating Russian Mikhail Youzhny, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. In the last-four stage, Djokovic will meet Wawrinka, while Spaniard Rafael Nadal will play Frenchman Richard Gasquet, later in the tournament.Meanwhile, the Women's Singles semi-final matches will be played today. World Number One American Serena Williams will lock horns with China's Na Li, while World Number Two Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will clash with Italy's Flavia Pennetta.In the Mixed Doubles title clash, the Mexican-American team of Santiago Gonzalez and Abigail Spears will take on the Belarusian-Czech combination of Max Mirnyi and Andrea Hlavackova today. In the second Women's Doubles semi-final, American sisters, Serena and Venus Williams, will meet the Czech pair of Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova today. In the first semi-final yesterday, the Aussie team of Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua defeated the Indo-Chinese duo of Sania Mirza and Jie Zheng, 6-2, 6-2. In the Men's Doubles, Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek stormed into the finals, after beating America's top seeded Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. For the Trophy, the fourth seeded Indo-Czech pair will meet the second seeded Austrian-Brazilian pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares later in the tournament. Leander Paes is the only Indian left in this competition.
