US Open: Serena Williams beats Yaroslava Shvedova to claim 308th win

In Tennis, world number one Serena Williams has set a new record of most number of Grand Slam matches wins. In the US Open early this morning, Serena defeated Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, 6-2, 6-3 to enter the quarterfinals and record her 308th majors victory. The 34-year old American surpassed Roger Federer in the all-time list.Serena, who is eying to win a record 23rd Grand Slam title and beat Steffi Graf, will take on fifth seed Simona Halep for a place in the semi-finals.Meanwhile, Serena's sister Venus Williams bowed out in the pre-quarterfinals after losing to lower-placed Czech Karolina Pliskova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7. World number four Agnieszka Radwanska also made a shock exit. She was stunned by unseeded Croatian Ana Konjuh, 4-6, 4-6.However, world number two Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Martin Del Potro booked quarterfinal berths.Top seed Novak Djokovic, Angelique Kerber and Lucas Pouille, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the fourth round, will be seen in action in the quarterfinals today.In Women's Doubles, the seventh placed Indo-Czech pair of Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova will play for a semi-final berth. They will take on the top seeded French team of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. Sania is the only Indian left in the tournament.
