US Open: Paes, Stepanek leading against Knowle, Polasek

In the Men's Doubles quarterfinals of the US Open Tennis tournament, India's Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek were leading 6-2, 1-0 against Julian Knowle and Filip Polasek when the match was suspended due to rain in New York.In Women's Singles, world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka advanced to the US Open semi-finals for the first time with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 victory over seventh-seeded defending champion Samantha Stosur of Australia. No women's top seed has won a Grand Slam title since Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2010 and no US Open women's top seed has taken the title since Justine Henin in 2007. In Men's singles, Spain's David Ferrer reached his fourth Grand Slam quarter-final of 2012 Tuesday when he beat Richard Gasquet 7-5, 7-6, 6-4 in a rain-hit US Open last-16 tie which took over seven hours to complete. Ferrer, the top-ranked Spaniard in New York in the absence of the injured Rafael Nadal, saw off 13th-seeded Frenchman Gasquet in two hours and 54 minutes of playing time.
