At the US Open Tennis championships in New York, Indian stars Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna have made a successful start in their doubles competitions. Veteran Paes entered the mixed doubles second round while Bopanna won his opening tie in the men's doubles event. Fourth seeded Indo-Swiss duo of Paes and Martina Hingis overcame local pair Taylor Harry Fritz and C Lui in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In Men's doubles, the sixth-seeded Indo-Romanian pair of Bopanna and Florin Mergea defeated the US duo of Austin Krajicek and Nicholas Monroe in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Today, Paes will open his campaign in men's doubles along with his Spanish partner Fernando Verdasco. In the women's doubles, the Indo-Swiss duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis will play their opening fixture.
