US military leader warns on China

The head of US Pacific Command, Admiral Harry Harris has said China is trying to win dominance in the Indo-Pacific region as it issues a challenge globally. <br/><br/>At a House Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington yesterday, Admiral Harris said China's impressive military buildup could soon challenge the US across almost every domain. <br/><br/>Harris said he was most concerned about China's activity in the South China Sea including the militarization of 7 outposts, despite a ruling by an Arbitral Tribunal under the Law of the Sea Convention refuting Chinese claims.<br/><br/>He said Beijing is also investing in the next wave of military technologies to include hypersonic weapons, advanced space and cyber capabilities and artificial intelligence. <br/><br/>Harris warned China was aiming to undermine rules-based international order, not just in the Indo-Pacific, but on a global scale.<br/>
