US markets rally after Cong deal to end shutdown

US stock markets rallied after the US Congress approved a last minute deal to end the fiscal standoff and avoid a damaging default on government debt. So Wall Street's key stock index, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.4 percent, yesterday. Across in Asia, however, key stock markets were mixed. So while Japan's stock index gained 0.8 percent, Singapore's stock index rose 0.7 percent, and South Korea's market added 0.3 percent, the Chinese and Hong Kong markets fell 0.2 percent, each.In the global bullion market, gold declined 0.3 percent, to 1,278 dollars an ounce, as the precious metal dimmed in its safe-haven appeal.
