US Major Nidal Malik open fire in a military base, 13 killed

In the United States, a US Army officer opened fire in a military base in Texas killing 13 people and wounding 30. Officials identified the alleged shooter as Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist who worked at the base hospital. The commander of the Base, Lieutenant General Robert Cone, says the officer opened fire in a building where soldiers were preparing to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan. The General later told a news conference that the shooter was shot multiple times and was taken into custody and is in a stable condition. The police today raided his apartment to search for clues. President Barack Obama described it as a horrific outburst of violence. He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims.<br/>
