United States have lifted the FIFA Women's World Cup for the third time. In the Final played at Vancouver, Canada this morning, they scored 4 goals in the first 16 minutes to dethrone holders Japan, 5-2 and win their first World Cup since 1999. Skipper Carli Lloyd scored a hat-trick in the gap of just 13 first half minutes, the third goal being a 50-yard shot. Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath were the other goal scorers in this highest scoring World Cup final. In the semi-finals, while US had defeated Germany, 2-0, Japan beat England, 2-1. On Saturday, England got the better of Germany, 1-0 to finish third.
