A US judge has blocked the latest version of President Donald Trump's travel ban. US Federal judge Derrick Watson has barred the White House from implementing Mr Trump's recent executive order on immigration.

The decision comes hours before the order was to go into full effect. It marks the latest blow to the Trump administration's long-running efforts to indefinitely restrict entry of travellers from targeted countries into the United States. The government is likely to appeal against the decision soon.

The most recent restrictions affect citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen – and some Venezuelan government officials and their families. Sudan had been dropped from the list of nations and the new regulation said that Iraqi citizens will be subject to additional scrutiny but will not face any blanket bans.
