US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano arrived in Afghanistan today for talks with Afghan officials and to spend the New Year eve with American troops. A statement issued from US Embassy in Kabul said Napolitano is accompanied by US Customs and Border Security officials to help provide civilian assistance to local officials. She is scheduled to meet with senior US and Afghan officials on border security issues. Afghanistan has a long unprotected border with Pakistan and militants move across the border with ease. The Secretary will spend New Year's Eve with the military men and women serving their country on the front lines to combat terrorism and bring peace and stability to the region. The statement said US Homeland Security has expanded its effort in support of President Obama's policy of civilian engagement in Afghanistan. More than one thousand civilian advisors and diplomats are working with US Embassy in Kabul, the largest of its kind in the world.
