United States on Thursday hinted at easing of high technology export control against India. The indication came from U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns, who held talks with the External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and other senior officials in New Delhi on Thursday. He said India is treated as a partner and not as a target in working together to adapt and reform the export control policies to reflect the realities of the 21st century partnership.Talking to reporters, he said President Obama has a rich agenda during his meetings with Indian leadership. This includes a whole range of issues from agriculture to expansion of defence and counter terrorism cooperation.Terming Obama's visit as a historic moment in relations between the two countries, he said Washington has deep strategic interests in India's emergence as global power. He asserted that his country is determined to continue working to adapt the international architecture to reflect the realities of the 21st century. AIR correspondent reports, the two senior us officials discussed regional and multilateral issues that advance India – U.S. bilateral relationship in their discussions. They may meet West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan, a former national security adviser before leaving back home. He played a key role in negotiations that led to the signing of the landmark India-US civil nuclear deal. The visit of Burns and Blake tops a series of preparatory meetings in the last few months ahead of Obama's visit. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K.Antony and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna held detailed discussions with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington. All eyes are now on the historic visit with focus on having access to high technology.
