The American Government has lifted a ban on deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico which was imposed after the BP oil spill in April. The US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said, companies which comply with new stricter safety regulations would be allowed to resume deep water oil operations. The Obama Administration is under pressure from the oil industry in the region as well as local politicians to lift the ban which is believed to have caused the loss of thousands of jobs.
