US FDA alerts India on dietary supplements

The Food and Drug Administration of the US has alerted India that there is a possibility of entry of some products containing Steroid or Steroid like substances in the country in the garb of Dietary Supplement. The US Advisory says that these products have been recalled in America as some of them were being marketed without an appropriate approval. The Advisory further says that the steroid containing products present a risk of acute liver injury to product users. In addition, steroids may cause other serious long term adverse health consequences in people including children. These may include male infertility, masculinisation of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, adverse effects on blood lipid profile and increased risk of heart attack and stroke death. The people have been advised not to use such products.
