The United States has expressed concerns about Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed running for office in Pakistan next year. The Jamaat-ud-Dawah Chief had earlier said, his organisation will contest the general elections under the banner of the Milli Muslim League, which is yet to be registered with the Election Commission.

US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told reporters in Washington that Saeed is a United Nations and a US-designated terrorist. She said the JuD Chief's release by Pakistan from house arrest last month and now reports of him running for office is a matter of concern for Washington.

Saying that the US has had many conversations with the Pakistan Government, Ms Nauert hoped that Islamabad will do the right thing. She reiterated that there is a 10 million dollar reward for information that would bring Saeed to justice.
