US express concern over Nepal stalemate

The United States has expressed deep concern over the ongoing political stalemate in Nepal, saying it threatens to undermine the peace process. Charg’ d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Randy Berry who called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today urged the government and the political parties to work towards consensus in a positive and constructive manner. He expressed concern at the recent Maoist actions on the obstruction of the parliament proceedings, the proposed declaration of the autonomous states and the continuing seizure of crops and land throughout Nepal.According to a press statement issued by the US Embassy, Charg’ Berry informed Prime Minister Madhav Nepal that Maoists actions are inconsistent with the stated Maoist commitment to the peace process, the rule of law and democratic practices.
