United States and European Union officials have decided against a ban on laptops and tablets in cabin baggage on flights from Europe. In their meeting at Brussels, officials from the US Department of Homeland Security and the European Union discussed the threats involving air travel. <br/><br/>In their joint statement, they said they share details about their aviation security standards and detection capabilities, and agreed to meet again in Washington next week to further assess shared risks and solutions for protecting airline passengers. <br/><br/>The meeting was requested by EU officials after recent reports suggested US authorities had new information regarding laptop parts being turned into explosives. Earlier, US officials had said they were looking into extending to Europe a ban on electronics on flights from eight mostly Muslim countries.
