The new U.S. Ambassador to Islamabad, Cameron Munter has defended strikes by American drone aircraft in Pakistan's tribal regions. In an interaction with media in Karachi on Friday, Cameron said, these attacks are part of the anti-terror war and are aimed at targeting common enemies. Munter's statement is seen rare as the U.S. officials usually do not publicly comment over drone strikes in the Pakistani territories. U.S. drones regularly strike suspected hideouts of the al-Qaeda and Taliban militants in Waziristan, which CIA considers as home of Pakistani Taliban leaders Hakimullah Mehsood, Hafiz Gul Bahadur and Mulla Nazir. They are accused of also sending fighters to Afghanistan for attacks on U.S. and NATO forces.
