US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has urged Pakistan to redouble efforts to halt insurgents staging attacks across the border in Afghanistan. According to the statement issued by the US Embassy in Islamabad, the Secretary reiterated that Pakistan must redouble its efforts to confront militants and terrorists operating within the country. <br/><br/>In his meetings with Pakistani officials, Mattis stressed how Pakistan plays a key role in maintaining the stability of Afghanistan, said the statement. US accuses Pakistan of providing safe haven to the militants.<br/><br/>Earlier, CIA Director Mike Pompeo warned Pakistan that if it does not eliminate the safe havens inside its territory, the United States will do everything they can to destroy them.
