US cuts $85 bn dollar govt spending

The US President, Barack Obama, has signed an order to begin 85 billion dollars worth of cuts in US government spending. Both democrats and republicans opposed the reductions. But, the two sides have failed to strike a deal and how to avert them. The package of cuts was drawn up two years ago. It had been designed to jolt US politicians into finding better ways to balance the books.
