The US prosecutors have charged the leader of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Hakimullah Mehsud, in the plot that killed seven CIA employees at an American base in Afghanistan last December. The Justice Department said Mehsud, believed to be hiding in the tribal areas of Pakistan, has been charged with conspiracy to kill Americans overseas and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. On December 30, a Jordanian doctor who had gained the trust of the CIA employees as a source detonated a bomb hidden under his clothing after entering a heavily fortified compound outside Khost. The US last night also designated Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as Foreign Terrorist Organisation, paving the way for overseas travel ban on its leaders and financial restrictions on the dreaded group. The terror group's top leaders, including its chief Hakimullah Mehsud and his deputy Wali Ur Rehman, were named as specially designated global terrorists, a category which will impose more State and Treasury department sanctions.
