US calls on China to use its influence to hold Myanmar military accountable for coup

<span style="color: #222222;">The United States has said that China should use its influence to hold Myanmar's military leadership accountable for the unrest in the country. The U.S. State Department also added that the violence in the country is not in Beijing's interests.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">It said, the US was continuing to call on China to hold those responsible for the coup to account. Separately, the UN envoy on Myanmar warned that the country was on the brink of a civil war.<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Unlike Western nations who strongly condemned the military action, China responded to the coup with caution and cited the importance of stability.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Myanmar has been in turmoil since the army ousted an elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1st, detaining her and reimposing military rule after a decade of tentative steps toward democracy. According to media reports, over 500 civilians have been killed in protests against the coup, 141 of them on Saturday, the bloodiest day so far<b>.</b></span><br />''  <br />
