The United States has called for restrain in Algeria where anti-government demonstrations have been reported. State Department spokesman P J Crowley said the US reaffirms its support for the universal rights of the Algerian people, including assembly and expression. Crowley said that these rights must be respected. He added that the US will continue to follow the situation closely in the days ahead.Reports say, about 2,000 activists rallied in the Algerian Capital on Saturday demanding the removal of the country's President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who has been in power since 1999.
