US bribery case: BJP demands CBI enquiry

Targeting former Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat over the allegations of a US firm bribing Indian officials for a water developmental project, BJP today demanded CBI enquiry into the issue. Quoting papers of FBI and US Department of Justice, BJP spokesperson M J Akbar said, Congress government was ruling in Goa at that time and the reports directly points fingers towards Mr Kamat who was holding Finance portfolio at that time. He said, given the track record of corruption by Congress, inquiry must be conducted into how much money was received by the Congress top brass in Delhi.

The bribery of nearly one million dollars was paid for the Goa project by Louis Berger. Two days back, the company agreed to pay 17.1 million dollar criminal fine to resolve charges that it bribed officials in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Kuwait to secure government construction management contracts. Terming the Congress party's attack on its party leaders as pseudo-aggression and cries of a lost child, Mr Akbar also asked Congress to behave like an adult over its threat of stalling Parliament during the Monsoon Session beginning tomorrow.
