The government today said that it is promoting electric vehicles in the country in a big way. Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Krishan Pal Gurjar without naming Tesla said, a US-based electric vehicle manufacturer till now has not applied as per the government's policy.<br />'' <br />'' He said, Tesla wants to employ workers from China while setting up their plants in this country. The Minister informed that the US-based company will have to employ workers from India while setting up its manufacturing plant in the country.<br />'' <br />'' Mr Gurjar said that doors are open for all the companies to set up their manufacturing plants in the country as it will provide employment to the youths of the country.<br />''<br />''The minister said the government has approved Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme on September 15 last year to encourage manufacturing of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products for the Auto sector in India including electric vehicles. Mr Gurjar said, overseas companies having registered offices in India are also eligible to apply under this scheme. The minister said, a total of 115 applications have been received from Indian and overseas companies.
