US asks Pak to make more progress on 26/11 Mumbai attacks

In a stern message to Pakistan, the United States has asked it to make more progress in bringing the suspects of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to justice. US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer said, more progress needs to be made in booking and trying the suspects in Pakistan. Roemer, who was in Pune on Wednesday evening to pay homage to the victims of the February 13 Pune terror attack on the German Bakery, noted that India had delivered justice in the case of Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured and tried for the Mumbai massacre.Pointing to the global significance of Mumbai terror attack trail, Roemer said, it claimed the lives of manynationalities, including six Americans, and the world community expected justice to be done by punishingperpetrators of the crime. The US envoy, in an informal talk with reporters, also expressed the hope that after clearing certain formalities, India would be able to have an access to the 26/11 attacks accused David Headley in the weeks ahead. Asked as to what was delaying Headley's access, Roemer said, some of the questions in this regard need to be resolved by the Indian government in the days and weeks to come. On whether the US still equated India with Pakistan in its global policy, Roemer negated the suggestion, saying the civilian nuclear deal was the testimony to the vitalimportance America attached to its relationship with New Delhi. He pointed out that Pakistan had not got the similar deal from the US. He added that India is an indispensable partner of the US.
