Uruguay will meet the Netherlands in the first semi- final of the ongoing World Cup Football at Cape Town tomorrow. The match will begin at midnight. Uruguay who are ranked 16th in the world, is a two time World cup winner.
Uruguay are the sole South American survivors in the last four after Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay all crashed out in the quarterfinals. Uruguay won the world cup in 1930 and1950 but last reached a semifinal in 1970 when the team finished fourth.
The Netherlands are ranked fourth and are two time finalists. The Dutch first lost to Germans in 1974 final and then to Argentina in 1978 final.
Having beaten World cup favourite Brazil in the quarter finals, Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has warned his players not to take the less illustrious South Americans of Uruguay for granted in the semifinals.
The coach said that Uruguay is a strong side and the Dutch team will have to be very concentrated. The Netherlands are on a 24 match unbeaten run and are in the first world cup semifinals since 1998 in France when it lost on penalties to Brazil.
The second semi final will be played on Wednesday between Spain and Germany at Durban.
