In the Second Round matches of the FIFA World Cup yesterday, Uruguay beat South Korea 2-1, and Ghana defeated the United States by the same margin. Both teams qualified for the quarter-finals.In the first fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Luis Suarez struck twice, once in each half, to give Uruguay a 2-1 victory over South Korea. With his double strike, Suarez joined Argentine Gonzalo Higuain and Spaniard David Villa on top of goal-scorers' list with three strikes each. In the absorbing match, South Korea's lone goal came in the 68th minute through Lee Chung-yong. The Uruguayans booked their quarter-final berth for the first time after the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. Uruguay will now meet Ghana in their quarter-final on Friday. At Rustenburg, Ghana kept alive African hopes by defeating the United States 2-1. The match-winner came through Asamoah Gyan in the third minute of extra-time. Earlier, both teams had finished 1-1 at the end of the 90-minute regulation period. Kevin-Prince Boateng put Ghana ahead in the 5th minute. Landon Donovan equalised for the United States with a 62-minute penalty conversion. Ghana are only the third African team to make it through to the World Cup quarter-finals.
