A uranium reserve has been discovered at Tummalapalle, in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The estimated reserve is more than 63 thousand tonnes. This information was given by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. V. Narayanasamy, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.The Uranium Corporation of India Limited or UCIL is to construct a mine and a mill in the area. The uranium produced at Tummalapalle will be used in the indigenous power programme.The currently known reserves of the indigenous uranium in the country can support a nuclear power programme with a generating capacity of about ten thousand mega watt. The government has sufficient infrastructure for its utilization.
