The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for 15 minutes till 1122 hours
today following uproar by several opposition members over the reported
remarks by a Lok Sabha MP on the dress code of women.
As soon as the
Upper House met for the day,some members,particularly women,took
strong exception to reported remarks made by a Telugu Desam MP while
participating in a short duration discussion on atrocities against
women and children in the Lower House yesterday. Protesting against
such kind of remarks,Ambika Soni of the Congress said they are highly
objectionable. She was supported by several other members.
Meanwhile,
some members from Odisha raised the issue of unprecedented floods in
the state and demanded that the Centre should make a statement on the
action taken.Following noisy scenes, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari
adjourned the House till 1122 hours.The House took up question hour
when it reassembled after the adjournment.
