Uproar in parliament over various issues; House adjourned for day

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned for the day on different issues. Earlier, the two Houses witnessed an hour-long adjournment in the pre-lunch session.

In the Lok Sabha, members from Tamil Nadu were demanding that India should take back Katchhathivu Island which it had ceded to Sri Lanka long back. The agitated members continued with their slogans in the well of the House ignoring the repeated appeal for calm by the Chair. Meira Kumar said she was compelled to adjourn
the House as uproar continued. She informed the House that she had received notices for a no-confidence motion against the government from several members.

In the Rajya Sabha, as soon as the House met at noon after the first adjournment, members belonging to BSP again rushed to the well in support of their demand for inclusion of people belonging to seventeen backward classes in the Scheduled Caste category. They were also supported by members belonging to Samajwadi Party, who also trooped in the well. TDP members were seen in the well in support of their demand for United Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader M. Venkiah Naidu demanded a discussion on JPC report on 2G spectrum allocation. As noisy scenes continued, Deputy Chaiman P J Kurien adjourned the House till 2PM. When the house met again at 2 pm, the scene was no different. It was then adjourned till tomorrow.
