Uproar in Parl over Mumbai violence; Maha CM briefs PM on issue

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon following uproar on various issues including Mumbai violence. As soon as the House began, the CPIM and Shiv Sena members trooped into the well of the House, shouting slogans. The CPIM members demanded Right to Food Security and a fair and efficient public distribution system. The Shiv Sena members displayed newspapers reports and photographs on the incidents in Mumbai related to the violence in Assam. The Opposition BJP members also shouted slogans, demanding a reply from the Home Minister. As the din continued obstructing the proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till noon.The House resumed its business after it re-assembled at 12 Noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said that the government is prepared to hold a discussion on the recent violence in Mumbai. He gave this assurance when several members demanded that they be allowed to raise the issue during the Zero Hour. The Vice Chairman Prof. P J Kurien asked the members to give notices for holding a structured debate on the issue. Amidst noisy scenes, the Vice Chairman adjourned the House for ten minutes in the pre-lunch period as some members continued to press for a discussion.
Earlier, raising the matter, Mr Balbir Punj of the BJP wanted to know who was behind the rally organized at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Saturday. He said the slogans raised at the rally were a matter of serious concern. Mr Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena raised the issue demanding a full-fledged discussion on the issue. Following assurance from the Home Minister, the House took up a discussion on the Calling Attention notice on the death of pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra this year.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithvi Raj Chavan today met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to brief him about the clashes in Mumbai. It is also believed that both of them discussed progress in the investigation into the incident.
In the Lok Sabha today, as soon as the House met, Shiv Sena and BJP Members from Maharashtra stormed into the well, demanding dismissal of the Maharashtra government and a statement from Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on the Mumvai violence.
