Uproar in Parl over alleged irregularities in gas deal by Gujarat govt.

The issue of an alleged gas deal in Gujarat figured prominently in both Houses of Parliament today disrupting proceedings in the pre-lunch session. The Lok Sabha was briefly disrupted as treasury bench members shouted slogans and displayed copies of the periodical about the joint venture between a fictitious Barbados based company and the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation in 2003. They also demanded inquiry into the alleged deal. Amidst the din Speaker Meira Kumar allowed the laying of papers and introduction of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2012 before adjourning the House for 20 minutes. Earlier, the House functioned normally during Question Hour and later took up matters of urgent public importance.
The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm. As the House met after the first adjournment, Samajwadi party members again rushed to the well opposing Constitutional Amendment Bill providing reservation in promotion for SCs and STs in government jobs. The Congress members were also on their feet demanding inquiry into the alleged Gas deal in Gujarat reported by a magazine. The Deputy chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House till 2pm. Earlier, the House was adjourned for an hour as the SP members demanded release of Muslim youth languishing in
jails.
