Upper part of Bhakra dam tilts more than an inch

In Punjab, the upper part of Bhakhra dam has tilted more than one inch due to the pressure as the water level has crossed 1.80 feet in the reservoir of the dam. The upper limit for filling of the dam is 1685 feet while the height of the dam is 1690 feet. Earlier, the dam used to be filled upto 1685 feet but during this season, Bhakhra Beas Management Board had decided to fill the dam upto 1681 feet only and the extra water is being released to spill gates since the last one week. During this year, inflow of water is much more than the release of water due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the river Sutlej. The dam authorities have made it clear that there is nothing to worry with the tilt as the design of the dam is such that it can tilt upto 1.5 inches.
