Upper Bhadra project: Lokayukta directs police to submit report by Nov 26

Karnataka Lokayukta has directed Police to submit by November 26 the investigation report on irregularities in awarding contracts pertaining to Upper Bhadra Irrigation Project.

After accepting the status report on Wednesday, the court in Bangalore directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police S Girish to submit his report within a month.

The case filed by Jantha Dal (S) leader Y.S.V.Datta alleged that former Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa favoured a particular company in awarding the contract, even though the price quoted by it was on the higher side.

The contract was awarded during 2008-09, when Yeddyurappa was the Chief Minister.

It is also alleged that in return, the firms owned by family members of Yeddyurappa received money from the company which was awarded the contract.

In another development, the State CID registered a case on Wednesday to investigate alleged irregularities and financial misappropriation in the Upper Krishna Project between 1995 and 1998.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister of the state during that time. No person has been named as accused in the case filed under Prevention of Corruption Act.
