In Assam, altogether 568 Karbi Anglong underground outfit-United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militants, including 22 women cadres, laid down arms at a function organized at Diphu stadium in Karbi Anglong district today.Five Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants also laid down their arms at the function.AIR correspondent reports, the militants, led by its self-styled chairman Longsoder Senar, formally laid down arms before the Director General of Assam Police Shankar Barua and the GOC of the Four Corps of the Army Shanti Gurung.The militants deposited huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 85 AK rifles, 177 sophisticated weapons and 18,000 ammunition, 322 magazines, 18 nine m. m. pistols and 38 point 32 rifles at the mass surrender ceremony.The UPDS has also declared disbanding itself as an underground outfit and announced joining the mainstream of the society.AIR correspondent reports, the arms laying down ceremony is a result of tripartite peace accord signed between the Centre and the State Government, and the Karbi outfit United People's Democratic Solidarity on the 25th of the last month.
