The Congress led UPA government is committed to end corruption especially at high places and ensure transparency in the government functioning. The mouthpiece of Congress Party Congress Sandesh in its December issue has said that the first step was in legislating the Right to Information Act, which has laid bare the decision making process in the Government.
The party magazine further said that the Prime Minister has committed on the floor of the house to bring about a strong bill for the creation of Lokpal. The UPA is trying to bring about a consensus amongst all parties so that a patth breaking legislation such as this is not found wanting soon after. It said, legislation such as this requires serious deliberations and cannot be pushed through in haste.
The Cabinet has also cleared the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill, Public Interest Disclosure and Protection to Persons Making the Disclosures Bill, Whistle-blowers Protection Bill and Citizen's Charter and Grievances Redressal Bill as further steps to ensure that there are fora to address various possibilities of acts of corruption by people in the decision making positions.
The party organ asserted that the commitment of the UPA Government and its determination to wipe out corruption governance cannot be doubted.
