UPA coordination committee meeting today on FDI in retail

UPA coordination committee is meeting today before agreeing to a debate on FDI in Multi brand retail. Government is trying to persuade the DMK to support the government on the issue. Earlier,in the all-party meeting on the FDI issue yesterday, government appealed to various political parties to reconsider their stand on a discussion with voting. Emerging from the two-hour-long all party meeting in Parliament House, Parliamentary Minister Mr. Kamal Nath said the Government was open to discussion in parliament on the issue. He said it should be left to the presiding officers of the respective houses to decide whether the discussion should be allowed under the provisions of a vote..

Government however, found itself on relatively comfortable ground with Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party willing to go in for a discussion without voting. Trinamool Congress' stance of not insisting on a vote came as a sudden reprieve to the ruling coalition.
