UP to set up new Industrial Training Institutes

In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has decided to set up new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 229 underdeveloped-Blocks of the state and has sent a proposal to the Centre in this regard. AIR Lucknow Correspondent reports that the state government proposes to set up new ITIs in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Ministry in a bid to provide technical education and vocational training to youth in backward Blocks of the state. There are 820 Blocks in the state and of them 476 are identified as underdeveloped. Besides ITIs, the State Government would set up Skill Development Centres (SDCs) in Blocks to impart vocational training to educated youth. Under the new scheme, each Block will have two SDCs , while there will be one ITI for two Blocks. An official spokesperson has said, as the State does not have enough fund to set up ITIs on its own, it has sought the help from the Centre.
