In Uttar Pradesh, massive vaccination against dreaded Japanese Encephalitis will start from 27th of this month in seven districts of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions.AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports around 70 lakh children up to the age of 15 years will be given protective doses of JE vaccine under the programme.Additional Director of Health Services U K Srivastava told said the senior health officers are being deployed to monitor the quality of vaccine and to maintain the ‘cold chain’ during vaccination.More than 500 people, mostly children, have died due to various forms of brain fever this year in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions.Of this, 15 per cent cases were tested positive for Japanese Encephalitis. More than 150 patients of encephalitis are still being treated at various hospitals of eastern districts.
