UP to have law on commercial use of water

The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to enact a law to regulate bulk and commercial use of water. Out of 820 blocks in the state, ground water level has gone down badly in 138 blocks.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that alarmed over depleting water levels in parts of the state due to excessive exploitation, the Government has prepared a draft for the UP Ground Water Conservation, Protection and Development management, control and regulation Bill. Suggestion and objections have been invited from the public.<br/><br/>District magistrates and officers concerned have been asked to organise awareness programes among common men and to take their suggestions on the proposed Bill , the text of which has been up loaded on the State Government web site for public view.<br/><br/>The proposed Bill would be mainly applicable on the bulk and commercial users and provision of penal interest to an imprisonment up to one year has been proposed for the violators. <br/><br/>The Government has also decided to implement rain water harvesting scheme to improve the water level in 40 districts which would be implemented in phased manner.
