UP to carry out sparrows and vultures census

In Uttar Pradesh the government announced to carry out a census of birds sparrows and vultures in the state in its bid to conserve them. Forest Minister Fateh Bahadur Singh said in the legislative Council a proposal for scientific counting of these birds is under consideration and a budgetary provision will be made for the objective.During question hour Mr. Singh said the exact number of two birds was not known as scientific counting was not ever done. He said for conservation and safety of vultures, natural habitats were being developed and a ban had been enforced on veterinary formulation of diclofenac which is harmful for the birds. He said sparrow was not being conserved as it is not covered in the scheduled animals and birds. He said the state government will write a letter to the Centre requesting to include the sparrow in the schedule as declining number of house sparrows is a cause of concern.
