UP stampede: PM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia; Rahul likely to meet victims

In Uttar Pradesh the National General Secretary of Congress Mr. Rahul Gandhi will be visiting this evening at Mangarh in Pratapgarh district where in a stampede about 63 persons mainly women and children were killed on Thursday. He is likely will be meeting with persons injured in the incident and next kith and kin who lost their lives.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister announced financial assistance of two lakhs rupees each to the next kin of deceased of the stampede and 50 thousand rupees to those who are injured. He made this announcement in parliament today.<br/><br/>Meanwhile the Divisional Commissioner Allahabad Mr. Ajay Kumar Upadhyay has initiated his inquiry into the stampede reaching at the site.<br/><br/>Meanwhile a spokes person of the management of the Ashram, Jagatguru Kripalu Parishad told AIR Lucknow correspondent they have given financial assistance. They said that 10 thousand rupees has been distributed immediately to the next kin dead in the incident for their cremation and financial assistance of 1 lakh rupees more will be given to them.<br/><br/>The Chief Medical officer of the district Dr. Madan Mohan told that 12 unclaimed dead bodies are remain lying at mortuary as they have not been identifies yet. Unnamed FIR has been lodged against organisers of the event and management of the temple. A police spokes person told our correspondent that after investigation people responsible will be identified. The state government has not announced any financial assistance to the victims of the stampede.<br/><br/>According to Police, Godman of the Asram Swami Kripalu Maharaj had organized a collective feast for local people on the occasion of death anniversary of his wife. He had also announced distribution of utensils for the weaker section of the society on this occasion. There was big rush on this occasion and people were gathered much before the beginning of the function.
