An FIR has been lodged against sports minister of uttar Pradesh government and his six family members under the Prevention of Dowry Act in Chitrakoot district.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that district Police has lodged a criminal case on the direction of a local court.<br/><br/>It is said that engagement ceremony had taken place on October 7, 2008 between daughter of a local doctor and son of the Minister of State for Sports Ayodhya Pal Singh. The doctor had accused the minister of cancelling the engagement of his son with his daughter after the former had failed to meet a demand of RS 50 lakh as dowry.<br/><br/>The doctor Mr. Prabal Pratap Singh had moved an application before the court seeking its direction to police to lodge an FIR against Minister and his family members under the Dowry Act.<br/><br/>Admitting the application, Chief Judicial Magistrate Virendra Pandey directed the police to file an FIR which was subsequently registered at Karvi Police Station.
